UP-COMING EVENT: ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE FOR OURAY NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE:

Come Explore the 24th annual Open House at Ouray National Wildlife Refuge/Ouray National Fish Hatchery (both part of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service) will be held Saturday, May 5th , from 7:30 am to 1:00 PM. This free, family-friendly event will give people of all ages the chance to enjoy the scenic beauty of Ouray Refuge and learn about wildlife conservation and other subjects. Visitors will be able to touch animal furs and skulls. Observe endangered fish in large tanks, identify birds through a spotting scope, play a Monarch Butterfly migration game, make a pine cone bird feeder, or try throwing an atlatl (an ancient spear-thrower that was used early in human history.

Ouray Refuge is located about 25 miles southeast of Fort Duchesne.

UPDATE ON RANDLETT COMMUNITY:

Emergency Meeting was called on April 9th , 2018. The agenda of the meeting was to inform the community members on upcoming events/holidays for the future. Our almost finished and brand new community building, Elect a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, Community Budgets and much more.

The meeting will be held on every 2nd week of the beginning of each month. Which will be Wednesday, April 11th , at 6:00 pm. At the Randlett Park under the pavilion.

NOTICE: VIETNAM WAR “IN MEMORY DAY”

The U & O Veterans and Veterans families and friends are doing a Sunrise Prayer Ceremony, Monday, April 16th at Sunrise (6:40 am). At the Veterans Memorial Park, in Fort Duchesne

Honoring of our fallen Tribal Veterans who served during the Vietnam War, whose names are not listed on the “National Vietnam War Memorial Wall”, in Washington D.C., or any other list due to lack of documentation. The Department of Defense recently acknowledged the terrible side effects of Agent Orange and PTSD.

Everyone is invited U&O Veterans, Veterans families, U&O War Mothers, Ladies Auxiliary and Honor Society.

April 25th – Ute Indian Tribe Alcohol/Substance Abuse Prevention Program Presents:

Our Sacred Children workshop, A.C.E. Study (learn about how “Adverse Childhood Experience” have an Impact on development), Peer Support Training Program (peers helping peers discover resources), and Emotional Intelligence (Learn how to become aware of control, and express one’s emotions). April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, for our closing ceremony we will end the month with a mini pow-wow. Our children are our most precious beings, let us honor them and celebrate together. We will start with a pot luck dinner, please bring your best and favorite dish.

NEWS UPDATE FROM UTE INDIAN TRIBE VENITA K. TAVEAPONT MEMORIAL LIBRARY:

We will be open every day during this Celebration April 9th – 13th 2018, from 10 am to 6 pm. Bring your classes, bring your families, and bring a friends. Come in and see that the library has to offer everyone. Sign up for your Library card, or just come on in and say hello and take a look around! Let us know if you have any suggestions as well. I look forward to seeing everyone come in. Every day we will have storytelling, book displays and we will launch our 2018 Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards Voting Booths! So bring them in to vote.

LIBRARY COLORING CONTEST:

In honor of the 2018 Children’s and Teens Choice Book Awards, the library will be hosting the voting booths on this year’s 20 finalists. There are 4 categories. So there will be one winner from each group chosen in May. The deadline for the contest is May 5th . Groups as listed as follows: K-2nd grade, 3th -4th grades, 5th -6th grades, Teen. Please be sure your child’s first and last name and grade is on the entry, before turning it in to the library.

UPDATE FROM PAINTED HORSE DIABETES PROGRAM:

April 10th , 17th and 24th – Shawl Making Class: Dust off winter and get ready for Spring!! Shawl making class at the Tribal Library starting at 5:00 – 7:00 pm. All the supplies making and light refreshment will be provided.

April 17th and April 19th –Tie Dye classes starting at 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at Painted Horse.

UPDATE FROM THE UTE TRIBE SENIOR CITIZENS PROGRAM:

I would like to acknowledge the Ute Recreation program for sponsoring the Senior Movie day. This event will happen monthly, snacks are provided and is much appreciated by all. Thank you for thinking of our Elders.

The Senior Program is for those 55 years of age or older, and Enrolled member of the Ute Indian Tribe.

April Activities:

April 11th – Presentation by Larry Cesspooch, starting at 11:30 am.

April 16th – Presentation by Finance Committee, Doyle Cesspooch

April 18th – Tentatively scheduled presentation by the UIT Water Commission, at 12:00 (noon) The Tribal Water Commission and Department will be here to explain and give you a copy of the first Water Law of the Tribe for members referendum vote this summer.

April 25th – Senior Movie, sponsored by UIT Recreation, Snack will be provided.

May Activities:

May 7th – Randlett Bear Dance closed due Tribal Holiday.

May 9th – Mother’s Day Luncheon.

May 10th – NO LUNCH due UIT Head Bear dance.

May 14th – Fort Duchesne Bear Dance closed due Tribal Holiday.

May 28th – Memorial Day, will be Closed

May 30th – Senior Health & Fitness, starting @ 10:00 am.

REMINDER: Ute Senior Winter Heating Program is out of funds until next October 2018.

Ute Tribe Senior Title VI meals & Transportations:

The senior center meal service’s is from 11:30 – 12:30 pm. Monday – Thursday, except on holidays/tribal events.

Lunch Fee: for those 55 under and children.

Home Bound: meals are for those seniors over 55 years of age, and unable to leave their homes. Also if you are not going to be home due medical appointment please let us know, before 10:00 am.

There is a problem with dogs. Please keep animals tied up or away from staff. If this problem persist other accommodations will be made, this is for our workers safety.

All Ute Seniors call in advance for Transportation:

Transportation scheduling is from 8:30 – 4:00 pm. Monday thru Thursday, except on holidays/tribal events. REMINDER: there is only one driver so please make advance scheduling is required.

Tribal Member only!, Nuzzles & Co, in conjunction with Soul Dog and the Ute Tribe, will be conducting a Spay and Neuter Clinic for Dogs & Cats, May 19th & 20th , 2018.

Spay and Neuter clinic will be at the Ute Tribe Head Start Building. Cost is $15.00 per animal.

Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in transport carriers.

Courtney Grant is a 26 yrs old wife and mother of a 3 yr old boy and 1 yr old girl. She has been diagnosed with stage 4 Sarcoma Cancer and is in the fight for her life to be here for her husband and babies.

WRESTLING CAMP:

Kaden Campbell will be hosting a 2 day wrestling camp on May 18th & 19th , 2018. At Union High School.

This camp will be for Athletes 3rd – 12th grades. A USA Wrestling card (folkstyle) is required before registration, you can get on line at usawmembership.com.

Cost for registration will be $50.00, this includes a tee-shirt.

Deadline to register in order to receive tee shirt is May 4th . You can register late at the door but it will not guarantee you a shirt.

UTE INDIAN HOUSING AUTHORY: JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Ute Housing is seeking up to two (2) workers with carpentry skills to do rehabilitation work on homes currently under management. The homes are located in various communities through-out the Uintah & Ouray Reservation.

Duties:

Remove and replace flooring, interior and exterior doors, windows, cabinets and counter tops,

Install sub-flooring and underlayment in preparation for floor covering, perform painting on the interior and exterior of a house as required. There may be some roofing and siding work depending on the needs of the house repair requirements.

Applicant must be drug free and will be subject to Drug Testing and background check.

Duration: of 4 months of work.

Closing date: April 10, 2018. At 5:00 pm.
