NOTICE OF ELECTION DATES FOR UTE TRIBE BUSINESS COMMITTEE OFFICE:
Pursuant to the Ute Indian Tribe Constitution, and By-Laws of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation Article IV, V, and IX, Ordinance 13-006.
Tuesday, March 7th thru March 20th, 2017.
Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. In the Tribal Auditorium.
Election Commission will be posting names of the nominee’s, March 20th at 5:00 pm. in the Tribal Auditorium.
SCHEDULE FOR THE UP-COMING ELECTIONS:
March 27, 28 & 29th , 2017, from 5:00 pm, until whenever.
Primary’s Absentee ballots:
Ballots will be accepted March 27th thru April 3rd . From 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Monday – Friday. In the Tribal Auditorium.
April 4th , 2017. 8:30 to 6:00 pm.
Poll Places: Myton, Fort Duchesne, Whiterocks, and Randlett. Designated area’s will be announced prior before the Elections.

Turkey Drawing was held at Fish & Wildlife Building March 13, 2017. Results as follows:
South Trust Lands – Rio Grande or Merriam (North of Turkey Trail to Green River)
If you put in for the North Trust Lands and did not draw for the South Trust Lands, you will receive a permit for this season. We have 15 permits for the General Tribal Membership to pick-up. Permits will be issued on first come, first serve basis Turkey permits will be ready for pick up March 27, 2017.
1ST Annual Vietnam Veteran’s Contest Pow-wow:
March 24-25th , 2017.
Held at the Fort Duchesne, Gym.
Friday: Grand Entry 7:00 pm
Saturday 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

VIETNAM WAR 1968 REMEMBRANCE AND HONORING OF OUR K.I.A.’S:

Held at the U & O Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Sunrise Ceremony: @ 7:00 am. Prayer given by, Jerry Tapoof.
Program starting: at 10:00 am, with Posting of Colors- U & O Veterans & American Legion Post #216.
Followed by : Laying of the Wreaths, TAPS, Prayer by Jerry Tapoof - Sun Dance Prayer Song & Veterans Honor Song- Red Spirit, Presentations to the Family’s of our (2) Fallen Warriors: PFC Otis Lee Nick US Army K.I.A. 2/29/68, and LCPL Wilbert Wayne Cuch USMC K.I.A. 5/26/68. Also we will acknowledgment of POW/MIA.
Dinner will be served at the Veterans Memorial Park, Sponsor by Ute Tribe Business Committee.

VIETNAM WAR VETERANS POW-WOW:
The 1st Annual Vietnam War Veterans Pow-wow is being organized by the Ute Tribe Vietnam War Veterans who were “Boots On Ground” meaning they were in Vietnam during the war. They have organized this Pow-wow to honor and remember those that endured the hardships of fighting in a foreign land and to honor those who lost their lives there. This Pow-wow is intended to honor the veterans who were in Vietnam during the war. There are many veterans who served in the military during the Vietnam War but were not send to Vietnam. They are often referred to as Vietnam Era Veterans. They served their country and did their duty but due to no fault of their own, they did not serve in country.
All veterans are invited to come and participate and be part of the 1st Annual Vietnam War Veterans Pow-wow. Welcome home to all of those who served in Vietnam during the war.
March 29th 2017. is Vietnam Veterans Day in the State of Utah. There will be a ceremony honoring those Veterans at the State Capital beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a wreath laying Ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Salt Lake City. The Red Spirit Singers will sing an Honor Song at the Wreath Laying Ceremony.
UPDATE FROM UTE INDIAN TRIBE LIHEAP PROGRAM:
The LIHEAP Program is starting a new year this month, so come into the Social Services Office to pick-up an application.
Office Hours: Monday – Thursday. From 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

The Heating Program is a onetime payment for the Fiscal Year.

UPDATE FROM PAINTED HORSE DIABETES PROGRAM:.
Mondays: Circuit Training at 5:00 pm, at the Head Start building. Each session will be different work out.
Mondays and Wednesday: at 11:00 a.m., Elder Work-out at the Senior Center.
Tuesdays/Thursdays: - Zumba at 5:00 pm, at the Head Start building.
Wednesdays: Kickboxing at Head Start starting at 5:00 pm.
Friday March 17th – Cooking Club, at Painted Horse Office from 11 – 12:00 pm. I would like people to RSVP for this event so that I can take inventory and gather supplies for my attendees. If you’er interested in attending please let me know, call ext 4914.
Zumba-Thon:, March 18th , at 1:00 with doors opening at 12:30 pm. activity will continue until 4:00 pm. at the Fort Duchesne Gym. There will be three to four different instructors.
WALKING CLUB : Challenge is back! Starting the week of March 6th , we will be signing up anyone interested in the challenge of 100 miles, 200 miles, and 300 miles.
Walking Club will start on March 12th , so come into Painted Horse for more information and to get signed up.
Painted Horse is open on Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

March 15th – Ute Caregiver Meeting.
Shoshonean Language Reunion will be hosted by Shoshone-Bannock Tribe, in Fort Hall, Idaho. 1st meeting will be held Wednesday, March 15th from 11:30 – 12:30 pm. at the Ute Seniors Center. For more information contact: Rowena Thompson Reed @ 722-2331.

Senior Meal Services: for 55 yrs age and over:
Meal service is from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Monday thru Thursday, except Holidays also when clients are not going to be home please let us know before 9:00 am.
Please Note: We cannot deliver meals to anyone’s work site.
Ute Senior Transportation: is for 55 yrs. of age & over:
Don’t forget to call ahead to schedule for transportation from 9:00 am to 3:45 pm., Monday thru Thursday, except on Holidays.
Please note: this program is a Title V1 Grant Funded Program, and warning that this program will undergo some changes as of April 1, 2017.

UPDATE FROM UTE TRIBE HEAD START FATHERHOOD ACTIVITY:
March 23rd 2017. At the New Head Start Office, beginning at 6:30 pm.
We will be discussing family literacy, the library and activities a family can enjoy at home.
Mr. Stephen Moon from the Roosevelt Library will be the guest speaker.

UPDATES FROM RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
March 14th – Last day for Youth Basketball, all participants will receive a Tee-shirts at their last game. Thank-you, to all those that participated and the Coachs.
Gym will be closed for Wrestling practice Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 4:30 – 8:00 pm. till the end of April for the Ute Wrestling Club.
Youth Basketball end of League activity will be at the Vernal Cinema 5, March 25 at 10:00 am. this activity is for all Youth Basketball participants.
Gym will be closed for the Tribal Tournament of Tribal champions Thursday, March 26th – 29th , 2017. Tournament starts March 30, 31 and April 1st .
The Deadline for Tournament of Tribal Champions is March 26-29, 2017. You still have time to get your team in.
Recreation will be accepting Descendants papers from the Ute Indian Tribe.

NEWS FROM THE ALCOHOL/SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM:
A “Longest Walk” planning meeting will be held at the Red Pine Treatment Center, March 16th , 2017, from 10:00 – 12:00 noon. Your attendance and participation is needed and appreciated. The Longest Walk 5.2 (part2 of 2) will be arriving on March 26th and depart March 29th , from the Red Pine Treatment Center. Red Pine Clinic Director, Jason Law is tentatively making arrangements for lodging upon approval from Administration (not finalized yet). In addition, request has been made for meal (potluck was suggested) and activities ( talking circle, sweat, prayer circles, etc.
